Professional, Industrial, and Consulting Experience Dr. Uddin is an international expert in pavement technologies. He is a pioneer in applying spaceborne and airborne remote sensing technologies for transportation corridor assessment, air quality analysis, infrastructure inventory, and condition assessment. Dr. Uddin developed several pavement nondestructive evaluation and asset management software codes, which have been used for road and airfield projects in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, and abroad in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Dubai, Indonesia, and Taiwan. Dr. Uddin conducted many consulting assignments in USA and abroad and served as a legal expert advisor.Currently, Associate Professor of civil engineering at The University of Mississippi. 1989 – 91: As a pavement expert for the United Nations, implemented a road management system, and established a Pavement Management Services Unit for Dubai Municipality, UAE. 1987 – 89: As a senior pavement/materials engineer for the technical assistance team of the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP)‑Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) with leading roles in material testing plans and operational manuals. 1987: Research Engineer with Center for Transportation Research at The University of Texas at Austin. 1985 – 87: Research Engineer with Austin Research Engineers, Texas. 1978 – 81: Assistant Research Engineer at the University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dharan, Saudi Arabia. 1975 – 78: Materials Engineer with Netherlands Airport Consultant, supervised airport pavement construction projects at Gassim, Dharan, and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

Previously a pavement expert for the United Nations in the United Arab Emirates during 1989-91, Dr. Uddin received his PhD in 1984 in transportation engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Waheed Uddin has over 30 years of professional experience in highways, airports, sustainable development, air quality, and related areas of transportation engineering. He currently leads teaching and research programs in transportation, construction, materials, sustainable development, and natural disaster assessment using remote sensing satellite imagery and geospatial analysis. Dr. Uddin received 2001 School of Engineering faculty service award and Deep South ITE’s 2007 Epps/Dart award of excellence in teaching. Dr. Uddin’s 220 publications include three books on infrastructure asset management, one book chapter in 2011 Springer Climate Change Mitigation Handbook, one book chapter in 2006 CRC Highway Engineering Handbook, and 109 peer reviewed papers in refereed Journals and conference books. He has been the Chief Editor of IJP – International Journal of Pavements since 2002. Dr. Uddin made over 167 presentations including 60 invited lectures, workshops, and keynote speeches worldwide in 27 countries. He served as the Founder President of iSMARTi – international Society for Maintenance And Rehabilitation of Transport infrastructure, 2004-2007. Since 2009 he has been serving as the university representative from Mississippi in the board of directors of the Gulf Region Intelligent Transportation Society (GRITS).
Publications and Scholarly Contributions Over 100 papers, discussions, and technical reports. Dr. Uddin has made numerous presentations at national and international meetings, worked and lectured worldwide in 24 countries. He is a coauthor of “Infrastructure Management,” published by McGraw-Hill in 1997; Japanese edition published in 2001, and Chinese edition published in 2005. He is the author of chapter on pavement management systems in the 2005 CRC Highway Engineering Handbook (Editor: T. F. Fwa). Dr. Uddin developed short courses on airport and highway technologies at The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Mississippi, and abroad for Dubai Municipality in UAE, ITESM-Monterey and City of Leon in Mexico, Mackenzie University in Brazil, and University of Pisa in Italy.
